Why we use Distilled Water and why you should too!

Why we use Distilled Water and why you should too!

This appears to be quite a controversial topic, so I will try to tread carefully. After spendng considerable time researching the water topic (yawn I hear some of you say) We have come to the conclusion that best water you can drink is Distilled Water, followed by Reverse Osmosis and then Spring Water.

Why is mineral water on the supermarket shelves and not distilled?

The short answer is fairly obvious, because long shelf life, clear water is appealing to customers. Clever marketing lies convince you that what is provided is best, again profits are top of the list not your health.

During Pearl Harbour, WW2 and the Korean war, the navy drank distilled water for very long extended periods of time with no adverse affects whatsover, high ranking officers all the way down. This obviously can be debated so please continue reading for published facts, by Doctors and Experts regarding how distilled water is the best water you can drink, located at the bottom of this this FAQ topic.

I hear time and time again about how distilled water “leaches” minerals from your body..

“People who say that Distilled Water leaches minerals out of the body are, therefore, correct only in this respect. This is only 50% of the truth. It is virtually impossible for Distilled Water to separate minerals, which have become an integral part of the cells and tissues of the body. Distilled water collects ONLY the minerals which remain in the body, minerals discarded from natural water AND from the cells, the minerals which the natural water originally collected from its contact with the earth and the rocks. Such minerals, having been rejected by the cells of the body are of no constructive value. On the contrary, they are debris which distilled water is capable of picking up and eliminating from the system.”

—From “Water Can Undermine Your Health”  by Dr. Norman W. Walker

Another one is how distilled water is more acidic than Reverse Osmosis water.

Yes distilled water is more acidic that Reverse Osmosis water, or other types of water, however…. if we read “Why Distilled Water” by Dr. Varah Siedlecki. DOM, DN, PD.D. we discover many actual truths and facts such as the following

” …only distilled water produces a completely negative ion reaction in the system. Negative ions are alkaline-forming. These negative charged ions draw the positively charged acid waste products, flushing them into the elimination channels of the body for excretion. So even though distilled water tests slightly acidic, because of its negative charge, A MORE ALKALINE INTERNAL SYSTEMIC ENVIRONMENT IS CREATED WHEN DISTILLED WATER IS CONSUMED.”

— from “Why Distilled Water?” by Dr. Varah Siedlecki. DOM, DN, PH.D.

So why not tap water? or filtered water?

The chemicals used in tap water to ensure it is safe to drink while on its trecherious journey to your kitchen are very detrimental to your health, from bromide to chlorine to flouride, in some cases even oestrogen hormones are put into the tap water, along with many other inorganic elements which adversely affect the balance of your body and your health. As soon as I switched from mineral water (yes I fell for the BS also) to distilled, within a week I felt a massive difference in my mood and strength at the gym. Filtered water will certainly remove some of the unwanted minerals/elements that come through the tap but it will not remove the mass amounts of chemicals.

“DISTILLED WATER REMOVES POISONOUS SUBSTANCES and inorganic mineral matter from the human body. This process will be impeded if the water you drink is already contaminated.”

— from “Why Distilled Water?” by Dr. Varah Siedlecki. DOM, DN, PH.D.

Your tap water is treated with chemicals to kill microorganisms and bacteria. It can also contain other undesirable contaminants like hormones, toxic metal salts and pesticides. It may even get contaminated by microbes or chemicals that are within the pipes such as protozoa, lead or bacteria.

Even if the water leaves the source in a remotely clean condition, please remember that your water travels through pipes, which may have been underground since the Victorian times. It is nearly impossible for the water not to become contaminated by something.

Here is a list of chemicals routinely added to your water

  • Sodium silicofluoride
  • Liquified chlorine
  • Aluminium sulphate
  • Fluorosilicic acid
  • Calcium hydroxide

Fluorine compounds, Chlorine, Trihalomethanes

Salts such as:

  • radium
  • barium
  • aluminium
  • copper
  • lead
  • mercury
  • arsenic
  • cadmium

Nitrates, Hormones, Pesticides

How much oestrogen is there in our tap water?

“It is hard to say exactly how much oestrogen is present in our water supply as it is difficult to measure in such low concentrations but that does not mean it is not having a negative affect on our health. There is, in fact, no direct requirement for water companies to carry out tests for oestrogens in your water supply. Regulations 4, 16, and 27 of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 (England) cover the potential risk from all substances in water, including oestrogens but only offer guidance to water suppliers.”

“The concentrations of oestrogen in our tap water are not currently being tested but scientists believe that trace amounts do exist.”

Test your own water!

You can discover the quality of your water by testing it for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) with a TDS meter which reads the TDS instantly and lets you see the parts per million (ppm) TDS. Water with a TDS of 500 ppm or more is regarded as unfit for human consumption.

You can obtain your own TDS Meter quite cheaply with a simple google search, the best water you can drink will be 0 ppm.

Buy your own water distiller, there are many new ones on the market that no longer require replacement filters. Experience the difference in yourself within 2 weeks. Mind clarity and happiness, no longer require descaling your kettle or other appliances, you will feel healthier and happier.

Interesting fact: Shaving with distilled water and drying your blades after can prolong your blades life by almost double.
